DESCRIPTION:Programme Highlights\nThe Lithium-ion battery (LIB) is an impor
 tant technology for the present and future of energy storage\, transport\,
  and consumer electronics. However\, many LIB types display a tendency to 
 ignite or release gases. Although statistically rare\, LIB fires pose haza
 rds which are significantly different to other fire hazards in terms of in
 itiation route\, rate of spread\, duration\, toxicity\, and suppression. A
  recent study has been carried\, to collect and analyse the safety challen
 ges faced by LIB industries across sectors\, and compares them to the rese
 arch contributions found in the field.\n\nThis CPD session will brief on t
 he current findings\, such as the knowledge gaps between battery safety st
 andards and the real-world scenarios. But also will discuss on the recomme
 ndations that could improve battery safety.\nSpeaker\nProf. Guillermo Rein
  - Department of Mechanical Engineering Imperial College London\n\nGuiller
 mo is Professor of Fire Science at the Department of Mechanical Engineerin
 g of Imperial College London and Editor-in-Chief of the journal Fire Techn
 ology.\n\nHis research is centred on heat transfer\, combustion and fire. 
 The purpose of his work is to reduce the worldwide burden of accidental fi
 res and protect people\, their property\, and the environment. His researc
 h portfolio is ample\, but over the last 15 years he is best known in thre
 e areas: 1) how polymers and wood ignite so we can avoid fires from starti
 ng\; 2) how engineers can design better structures that resist fire\; and 
 3) how wildfires spread and how to fight them.\nRegistration &amp\; Enquir
