 ter No. 6/2021 the adoption with local modifications of BS 5839-1: 2017. T
 he BS 5839-1: 2017 incorporating Corrigendum No. 1 together with the Techn
 ical Guidance has become the design\, installation\, inspection\, and main
 tenance standard for Fire Detection and Fire Alarm Systems for buildings i
 n Hong Kong on 1 January 2022. The local modifications published in the Te
 chnical Guidance were formulated as a result of a series of sub-working gr
 oup meetings set up under FSD’s Fire Safety Standard Advisory Group.\n\n
 The presentation aims at giving an overview of the major changes between t
 he new 2017 edition of BS 5839-1 and the former 2002+A2: 2008 edition of B
 S 5839-1. There are nearly 200 local amendments to the Standard. All criti
 cal elements and their impact on the Standard and the Technical Guidance\,
  that need to be observed in the application of the standard\, will be add
 ressed.\nSpeaker\nIr Albert Tang has over 40 years of experience in the fi
 re protection industry. He is specialized in different types of fire prote
 ction system design and is conversant in various national standards as wel
 l as local regulations. Ir Tang was involved in a variety of local and ove
 rseas projects including different types of building\, utility structure\,
  and infrastructure. Besides\, Ir Tang has over 30 years of teaching exper
 ience in various institutes and universities\, fostering young practitione
 rs.\n\nAlbert is a holder of a BEng(Hons) fire engineering degree\, a char
 tered engineer\, a fellow member of the Institution of Fire Engineers\, a 
 corporate member of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers Fire Division\,
  and a registered fire professional engineer.\n\nAlbert is sitting in the 
 Fire Services Department’s Fire Safety Standard Advisory Group\, to revi
 ew\, advise and make recommendations to the Director of Fire Services rega
 rding standards and best practices for the benefit of all stakeholders.\n\
 nAlthough Albert has retired\, he continues to offer training to fire prot
 ection practitioners\, sharing his knowledge and experience with the indus
