With a view to enhancing building fire safety\, t he HKFSD aims to promote the wider use of stand-alone fire detectors in bu ildings of Hong Kong. Stand-alone fire detectors are widely popular in ove rseas and proven as a highly cost-effective means in minimizing the losses in case of fire. The purpose of installation of a stand-alone fire detect or is to give early warning to occupants in the incipient stage of a fire that enables the occupants to evacuate before their escape route becomes u ntenable to pass through.
