SUMMARY:Seminar on Fire Safety for Hydrogen
DESCRIPTION:Registration &amp\; Enquires \n The event is free of charge.
Registration is required. The number of participants is limited to 100. Ap
plications will be accepted on a first-come first-served basis. Priority w
ill be given to members of HKIE EG and Fire Division and HKPU staff and st
udent. Please complete the online registration below. The deadline for reg
istration is 31 May 2024. Successful applicants will be notified separatel
y.&nbsp\; \n Official Language \n Cantonese supplemented with English
Terminology &amp\; PPT presentation. 		\n Topic 1: Local Hydrogen Supp
ly – Towngas’ Innovative ways \n In recent years\, carbon neutrality
has emerged as a crucial global concern\, given its profound implications
for future generations. The targets to achieve carbon neutrality have bee
n set in the country's “30-60” dual carbon goals and the HKSAR Governm
ent's "Climate Action Plan 2050. Hydrogen Fuel Cell Vehicle (HFCV) is one
of the options to achieve zero emission in transportation sector. In this
seminar\, Speaker will share the current development strategies in the pro
duction &amp\; delivery in Hong Kong and how our town gas can ignite the h
 ydrogen economy with a fasttrack\, safe\, efficient\, and low-cost hydroge
n supply by utilizing the existing infrastructure. Speaker: Ir Sammy Kong
A 24-year veteran of Hong Kong’s gas and energy sectors\, Ir Sammy Kon
g is a chartered member of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers and the
Institution of Gas Engineers and Managers. Now\, he serves as the Assistan
t General Manager – Commercial &amp\; Industrial Marketing &amp\; Sales
for The Hong Kong and China Gas Co. Ltd. Over recent years\, he has been a
prime mover in a number of Hong Kong’s rapidly developing hydrogen ener
gy projects\, with a particular focus on those related to green transporta
tion. 		\n Topic 2: An Introduction on Hydrogen Fuel Cell and It's Appl
ication on Zero Carbon Emission Power Generation \n HK SAR Government ta
rgeted to reach carbon neutrality in 2050 and reduce 50% of carbon emissio
n by 2030 using 2005 as the base\, by “net -zero electricity generation
”\, “energy saving and green building”\, “green transport”\, and
“waste reduction”. Electricity generation take part of 67% of carbon
emission in Hong Kong. New energy sources shall be developed to achieve ne
t-zero emission in power generation. Hydrogen Fuel Cell are new energy sou
rces for power generation with no carbon emission which can pay important
role in carbon emission reduction roadmap.&nbsp\;In this seminar\, Speaker
will share the application and installation consideration of hydrogen fue
l cell.\nSpeaker: Mr. PS Chan&nbsp\;\nMore than 30 years experience in bui
lding services installation\, recently also involved in absorption chiller
and hydrogen fuel cell business with his company’s support. Chan has hi
s first Bachelor of Engineering in Building Services in 2004 and Master of
Science in Energy &amp\; Environment in 2013 from The City University Hon
g Kong. He’s now Assistant General Manager in Project Division of Shun H
ing Engineering Contracting Company Limited in Shun Hing Group. \n Topi
c 3: Fire Safety Considerations for Hydrogen Fuel Cell Vehicles (HFCVs) \
n Hydrogen fuel cell vehicles (HFCVs) are a promising and sustainable alt
ernative to conventional fossil fuel-powered transportation. HFCV research
and promotion have been spearheaded by certain countries. However\, conce
rns about their safety and the lack ofcomprehensive regulations for fire s
afety in enclosed spaces\, like carparks and tunnels\, have emerged. This
session will provide an overview of the HFCV market\, discuss their compo
nents and mechanisms\, analyze fire hazards and behaviors\, review existin
g regulations\, and outline key considerations for effective fire safety d
esigns. The goal is to provide a comprehensive understanding of the fire s
afety challenges associated with HFCVs.Speaker: Ir Yueci Zhao Ir Yueci Zh
ao is an Associate at Arup Hong Kong with nearly 20 years of experience in
fire safety engineering. She has worked in Australia\, New Zealand\, and
Mainland China before settling in Hong Kong. She specializes in developin
g performance-based fire safety design solutions and integrated strategies
for various building types\, including airports\, commercial buildings\,
 data centers\, education facilities\, healthcare centers\, hotels/resorts\
 , industrial buildings\, retail spaces\, railway/metro stations\, sports c
omplexes\, and tall buildings. Her expertise covers fire engineering desig
n\, risk assessment\, safety audits\, structural fire engineering assessme
nt\, façade fire safety\, fire safety management\, emergency evacuation p
lanning\, and more. Recently\, she has been leading studies and research
on façade fire safety and emerging technologies\, such as Electrical Vehi
cles\, Battery Energy Storage Systems\, Quantitative Risk Assessment\, and
HFCVs\, within the Arup East Asia Fire Engineering Skill Network. \n O
