The aim of the scheme is to promote the qu ality assurance of the manufacture and supply of passive fire protection p roducts. The Scheme requires that all the certified products are quality c ontrolled at various critical stages of manufacture and supply. In many co untries\, government departments\, local regulators\, and authorities as w ell as national agencies require mandatory or voluntary certifications of fire protection products for reasons of safety\, health\, environmental pr otection\, fraud prevention and market fairness. Our practice in HK\, a si ngle fire resistance test on submitted specimen was used to determine the performance of the product and approval of use. This approach cannot certi fy every product that manufactured\, and the raw materials used in the pro duct is of a consistent acceptable quality. The implementation of the prod uct conformity certification scheme therefore fitted in well to provide qu ality verification for the fire products.\nSpeaker\nDr. L.K. SZE\, Lipmann – Committee Member of Certification Group\,\nHong Kong Institute of Ste el Construction (HKISC)\n\nDr. Sze is the committee member of HKISC certif ication group. He is responsible for the drafting and updating of the PCCS -PFPP document. He is also the Technical Director of the Research Engineer ing Development Facade Consultants Ltd (RED). He joined the company in 201 2 and is mainly responsible for the development of fire protection product testing\, assessment\, fire engineering and product certification. He is also the Hong Kong HKICA registered technical auditor for the HK Product C onformity Certification Scheme (PCCS) for Passive Fire Protection Product (PFPP).\n\nDr. Sze has represented RED many times in exchanges and meeting s in the fire testing laboratories across Europe. Dr. Sze has more than 15 years of experience in fire testing\, fire engineering and passive fire p rotection product certification. Before joining RED\, he worked as a Senio r Fire Engineer at Warringtonfire and was responsible for fire engineering design\, product testing and technical assessor for the “Certifire” p rogram.\n\nHe got the bachelor’s and doctorate degrees in the Department of Mechanical Engineering\, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Dr. Sze also participated in the compilation of the third edition of the PCCS-PFP P published by the Hong Kong Institute of Steel Construction.
