SUMMARY:Buckling and Stability to Steel\, Concrete and Composite Structures
  to the Code of Practice
DESCRIPTION:\nDownload File\n\nAbstract\nThis seminar presents 1) basic bac
kground theories on buckling and stability\; 2) design consideration for l
ocal and member buckling of individual structure elements\, and the overal
l stability and global buckling of buildings and structures\; 3) implement
ation of basic stability principles through uses of codes of practice for
steel\, concrete and composite structures in Hong Kong \; 4) buckling and
stability to structures under fire limit state\; 5) approaches of advanced
analysis for complicated structures\; and 6) the selection of pre-accepte
d computer software by the Buildings Department for buckling and stability
analysis.\nSpeaker\nIr Dr. Alfred FONG is a Registered Structural Enginee
r\, Fellow member of HKISC and serving the Honorary Secretary in HKIE Fire
Division. He is experienced in design of long span steel structures\, hig
h-rise buildings\, residential and commercial development and advanced ana
lysis. He has authored and co-authored several journal papers in addition
to conference papers on second-order direct analysis method for steel and
concrete-steel composite structures. He possesses ample experience in deve
loping software that can apply direct analysis method in steel and composi
te structures.\n\nIr Dr. Don HO is a registered professional engineer in s
tructural discipline\, and is a pioneer and expert in earthquake engineeri
ng\, structure dynamics\, and advanced concrete and steel structures. Afte
r receiving his PhD degree in HKUST\, he served Arup for more than 10 year
s\, and he is now focusing on the development of public housing for the ci
ty. His signature projects include the first seismic code of Hong Kong\, P
NB 118 the world second tallest building\, the first tuned mass damper app
roved by the Buildings Department\, and the first pre-accepted software GS
A for pattern load analysis of grillage systems. His works have received t
he HKIE Structural Excellence Award\, the CTBUH 10 Years Award\, the HKIE
Transactions Prize\, the ICE Best Paper Award\, the NCREE IDEERS First Pri
ze\, and the Sir Edward Youde Memorial Fellowships.\nPlease follow the 2 s
teps registration procedure:\n\n Fax or email the completed registration
form to Mr. Sam Chan (Email: samchan@hkisc.org) for preliminary registrati
on.\n Post the completed registration form together with a crossed cheque
payable to Hong Kong Institute of Steel Construction Limited to Mr. Sam C
han\, at: HKISC c/o Unit 209B\, Photonics Centre\, No. 2 Science Park East
Avenue\, Hong Kong Science Park\, Shatin\, NT.\n\nRegistration fee can al
so be paid by ATM or bank in to HKISC bank account at Hang Seng Bank. Our
Hang Seng Bank account number is 222-049918-001 and account name is “Hon
g Kong Institute of Steel Construction Limited”. Please email the ATM tr
ansfer advice or deposit form to samchan@hkisc.org for record after transf
erred.\n\nPlaces are limited. Please send the completed registration form
to Mr. Sam Chan \, Secretary of the Institute of Steel Construction\, c/o
Unit 209B\, Photonics Centre\, No. 2 Science Park East Avenue\, Hong Kong
 Science Park\, Shatin\, NT. by 12:00 noon\, 22 February 2023. or through e
